Scratch another name from Alabama's defensive backfield.

Coach Nick Saban said Wednesday that sophomore safety Rod Woodson was no longer a part of the team and that his leaving was a mutual decision.

"I don't really feel it's a problem, when you have people in the organization who aren't accountable, how not having one would affect anything," Saban said. "We cannot make decisions about the future of players who aren't accountable for what they're supposed to do and not responsible to what they're supposed to do as a member of this team, regardless of what the issue is -- behavioral, academic, football-related.

"We have a lot of good players on the team, and I would rather move somebody from another position to play where we don't have enough players than to allow somebody not to do the right things and be involved. I don't think we do anyone any good if we do that."

Woodson was competing in the spring with Robert Lester for a starting safety spot opposite Mark Barron, who's the only member of last season's regular defensive back rotation returning. With Woodson gone, that means there's even more of an opportunity for true freshmen Nick Perry and Jarrick Williams to come in and play right away this season.

Alabama's secondary is shaping up to be one of the youngest and most inexperienced in the league.

By carefully thinking and planning, with adequate courage and confidence, we have no reason to fail.
